Ontario Government Creates Foodservice Scholarships!

The McGuinty government announced new programs to encourage apprenticeships in Ontario in its budget this year, but only few will directly impact on  the foodservice industry.

The province is creating 1,500 scholarships of $1,000 each for high school students who have quit school, then returned to complete high school and enter apprenticeships, and a $2,000 bonus for employers who hire them.

The government is also introducing the Apprentice Training Tax Credit providing tax credits for employers on a portion of the salaries and wages paid to eligible apprentices.

However, this credit only applies to a limited number of trades, and cook is not included.
